PROJECT: Manthorpe Lodges are a development for 5 stilted dwellings taking their access from Woodthorpe road.

STATUS:  Early design stages

The street elevation is minimal with an interplay of volumes and planes all with the intent of framing the view.

Due to the topography of the site, stilted dwellings were a favourable response to the prospective groundwork costs involved in excavating and laying foundations on such a steep and densely wooded site.

The house has been split and staggered into two linked volumes; the upper volume being the living space and the lower being the private quarters. In this way, both volumes can have uninterrupted views over the woodland and a roof terrace has been created to expand the usable exterior space.

The aerial view above shows how the buffering from the trees will create a relaxed living environment whilst also hiding the majority of the dwellings from view for the estate on Manthorpe Crescent below.
